The Essiac Formulas

Rene Caisse used all eight of the Medicine Man’s herbs in her combination Essiac therapy, as verified in her 1977 paper and by an independent witness in the 1980s.

Rene Caisse’s Classic Essiac Tea

8g Burdock (Arctium lappa) chopped root
5.4g Sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella) coarse-ground whole herb (leaves, stems + root mix)
1.3g Slippery elm (Ulmus rubra) powdered inner bark
0.3g Turkey rhubarb (Rheum palmatum) powdered root

15g dry herb mix to 1.5 litres pure spring water.
Cooking time: 10 to 20 minutes, depending on percentage of Sheep sorrel root in the mix.
Steeping time: 12 hours.

Classic Essiac Formula

Black Root Medicine

6.5g Burdock (Arctium lappa) chopped root
4.3g Sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella) coarse-ground root
1g Slippery elm (Ulmus rubra) powdered inner bark
1g Red clover (Trifolium pratense) coarse-ground root
1g Watercress (Rorippa nasturtium-aquaticum) chopped root or stem+root
0.9g Periwinkle (Vinca major) coarse-ground root
0.2g Turkey rhubarb (Rheum palmatum) powdered root
0.1g Goldthread (Coptis trifolia) chopped root or Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) powdered root.

15g dry herb mix to 1.5 litres pure spring water.
Cooking time: 20 minutes.
Steeping time: 12 hours.

Note: Black Root Medicine is the Medicine Man’s Original 8-herb Formula with its own unique synergy. It should not be confused with the Brusch/Grove Flor-essence formula.

Essiac Topical Solution

12.5g Sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella) coarse-ground whole herb, minimum 50% root, preferable 100% root.
2.5g Slippery elm (Ulmus rubra) powdered inner bark.
